IAQ Pro®...How Does It Work?

Immunoassays (or antibody-based tests) are used extensively in the healthcare diagnostic field

IAQ Pro® utilizes proven antibody-based lateral-flow technology to identify the presence of numerous species of molds known to be associated with water intrusion problems.

What are Antibodies?

Antibodies are proteins produced by all mammals and are part of the normal protective immune system.  Antibodies offer protection from foreign substances by their  highly selective ability to capture (or bind) to these foreign substances and help the body remove remove them.  Antibodies can also be used as investigative tools and be produced with specific binding characteristics against target substances. These types of antibodies are widely employed in laboratory and field tests.  For example, common pregnancy test strips found in most drugs stores use the same technology found in the IAQ Pro tests.

What happens when we add sample to the tests?

1) Mold-containing sample reacts with the dye-labeled antibodies and the complex moves down the test strip via capillary action,

2) As the dye-labeled antibody-mold complex binds to mold-specific antibodies attached further down the test strip, a visible sample line forms along with the control test line.  In the absence of target molds, only the single control line forms.

Why the Reader?

The Defender TSR or Guardian Reader provide increased sensitivity and better reproducibility.  The readers also provides documentation and chain-of-custody for all field test results. Most importantly, the test reader provides a completely OBJECTIVE evaluation of the test results, something that cannot be offered with simple visual reading.

Defender TSR Results: Mold Detected

  • Sample value (SV) above threshold value (TV)

  • Mold present at detectable levels

  • Asp/Pen Screening is Positive

What about data backup?

All data recorded by the reader is backed up automatically into an integrated radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip in each test strip.  This means even if the reader or printout report is lost the data is easily recovered from the test cartridge itself!  Additionally, data can be easily backed up from either reader directly to your computer (Note: The Defender TSR includes our proprietary DATA Manager™ software for PC).
